Sundowning

In some people with dementia, behavior changes in the late afternoon or early evening. They become restless and more confused. This is referred to as sundowning.

In the dance performance ‘’Sundowning’’ the viewer is invited into an inner world in which memory fades and fantasy thinks up answers to our questions. The performance explores the transitional space between remembering and forgetting, offering a view of something familiar and widely recognizable and something that is deteriorating. It imagines different perceptions of reality and plays with fantasy, and how imagination can work as a coping mechanism for fear. “Sundowning” invites us to experience joy and sadness at the same time and travel through what was, what is, and what might become.

Sundowning is developed inspired by an exchange with Alzheimer center Amsterdam.
